Job description
itsme® has fundamentally changed how people lead their digital lives in Belgium, but we are not stopping there! Do you want to be a driving force to help expand on this success story as part of a talented team that is making a positive impact on society? Then keep on reading, you’ll probably like what you’ll see.
We are itsme®, one of Europe’s fastest-growing scale-ups, counting 100 team members and growing. Our mission: providing a state-of-the-art digital identity solution to all people, enabling them to interact securely in the digital space. Now, only five years after being founded, close to 8 million citizens use the itsme® app, to identify themselves and sign documents online. Starting in Belgium, we successfully launched the itsme app in 17 European countries, with the ambition of becoming an internationally leading player.
We are looking for a proactive and business-minded Legal Associate to join itsme®’s Legal team. In this role, you will support the company’s day-to-day legal needs across a broad range of commercial and corporate matters, working closely with internal stakeholders and external counsel. You’ll be a trusted partner to the business, helping to keep our contracting engine running smoothly, safeguarding our intellectual property, and ensuring strong governance foundations as we continue to grow. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on legal professional who enjoys combining legal rigor with pragmatic, solution-oriented advice in a fast-moving tech environment.
What your job looks like
Commercial contracting & advisory: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements (e.g., client, supplier, partnership, and technology contracts). Ensure contracts reflect itsme®’s standards and risk position, and provide practical legal guidance to support business teams.
Data protection / GDPR support: Provide legal input on GDPR and privacy matters, particularly in connection with contracting and product initiatives. Support the maintenance of privacy-related contractual clauses, documentation, and compliance practices alongside relevant stakeholders.
Litigation coordination & follow-up: Coordinate and support the follow-up of disputes and claims (e.g., fraud cases, IP matters, commercial conflicts). Act as the internal point of contact for external counsel, ensuring timely progress, clear documentation, and appropriate communication to the business.
Intellectual property management: Support the execution of itsme®’s IP strategy and day-to-day follow-up. Coordinate with external IP partners for trademarks and brand protection (e.g., Novagraaf) and patents (e.g., Venner Shipley, VO), including filings, renewals, watching services, and enforcement actions where needed.
Corporate governance & structural support: Assist with corporate governance tasks and legal entity management (e.g., supporting the setup or maintenance of entities such as a Dutch subsidiary). Prepare and maintain corporate documentation and ensure records are accurate and up to date.
Insurance coordination: Oversee the general coordination of corporate insurances, acting as a liaison between internal stakeholders, brokers, and insurers. Help ensure adequate coverage is in place and support renewals and policy administration.
