Then keep on reading, you’ll probably like what you’ll see.
We are itsme®, one of Europe’s fastest-growing scale-ups, counting 75 team members and growing. Our mission: providing a state-of-the-art digital identity solution to all people, enabling them to interact securely in the digital space. Now, only seven years after being founded, 7 million citizens use the itsme® app, to identify themselves and sign documents online. Started in Belgium, we successfully launched in The Netherlands and Luxembourg, with the ambition to become an internationally leading player.
We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious legal leader with regulatory expertise to join our Corporate Affairs team. This is an amazing opportunity if you have the experience to lead the legal & regulatory team, providing guidance on legal matters and the regulatory frameworks that shape our industry. You will be instrumental in building out the legal function to support itsme® ‘s ambitious growth, ensuring a strong legal foundation for a scalable and compliant expansion.
What your job looks like
Legal strategy & advisory – Develop and execute the legal and regulatory framework to support itsme®‘s ambitious business objectives, while mitigating risk. Legally advise on matters supporting product and international expansion (e.g. assessing legal and regulatory framework in foreign markets).
Contract management and negotiation – Support and oversee the drafting and negotiation of commercial and other agreements. Ensure all contracts meet legal standards and comply with relevant laws.
Regulatory compliance – Ensure full compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards (e.g. eIDAS, GDPR, PSD2/3, AML, DORA, NIS2 and ESG). Develop and monitor corporate policies on legal standards and ethics to that end. Assess the business risks and opportunities of regulatory frameworks as they shape and evolve. Represent the company in regulatory matters and contribute to relevant legislative processes, locally or internationally.
Corporate venturing and governance – Advice on setting up new partnership structures and legal entities, in Belgium or abroad. Ensure the organisation adheres to corporate governance standards, e.g. supporting the preparation of board and shareholders meetings.
Intellectual Property Management – Establish and manage a strategy to protect itsme®‘s proprietary technology, and oversee enforcement, including managing litigation.
Team leadership & development – Mentor and lead an in-house legal team that meets the demands of a fast-growing tech company. Oversee the selection and management of outside counsel for specialised legal matters (e.g. when doing an international acquisition).
